John Joseph Sullivan
08/05/1933 - 01/01/2018 John passed away 01/01/2018. He was a proud 63 year member of I.B.E.W. Local 124 and a Journeyman Electrician. John served his local union as Financial Secretary from 1972 to 1996. He was the 2nd longest full time serving officer in the 111 year history of local 124, having won 8 three year terms and 6 International Convention delegate seats. John never met a stranger and was always reaching out to help people in any situation. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. John had almost total recall of names and he loved all people and animals. In 1952, John married the love of his life, the beautiful Lucia Stover, they had five great kids: Terri Freedman(Rick), Luanne Freund(Eddie), Danny Sullivan (Deceased)(Karen), Mary Daly (Dave), and Kelly Hill(Brock). John and Lucia were also blessed with ten grandchildren Shawn, Jeremy, Josh, Patrick, twins Emily and Mikey, Abby, Ellie, Katie and Joey; and three great grandchildren Zoe, Fiona, and Ella with one more on the way. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. There was an article written by Kelly Van Tuyl that appeared in the Kansas City Times, July 4th 1985 that sums up the kind of guy John Sullivan was and the way he lived. Visitation will follow the 5 PM Rosary on Thursday, January 11th 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, temporarily located at the old St. Joseph High School Gym, 11525 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, January 12th. There will be a celebration of life at the I.B.E.W. Hall, 301 East 103rd Terrace, Kansas City, MO at 1 PM on Saturday, January 13th. |
